We created this interactive exercise to give kids a fun and simple way to practise using the syntactic manipulation of pronominalisation (pronominalization), a central concept in French!
The interactive exercise allows students to practise a key syntactic manipulation in French: replacing a word or group of words with a pronoun, known in French as pronominalisation (or pronominalization, in English).
With regular practice, players will develop their skills and, step by step, become pronoun pros.

Syntactic manipulations, including pronominalisation, are a central focus of the new French grammar taught in Quebec schools. These operations help students to better analyze the elements of a sentence.
- The exercise has multiple different levels of difficulty, so students can play according to their grade level and skills. It’s aimed primarily at students from grade 3 to 6 of elementary school, but could also be useful for older or younger children.
- The exercise allows students to correct their mistakes: They receive targeted feedback and can retry missed questions until they get the right answers.
- This exercise can be done on a tablet, smartphone, or computer, which means your child can practise their pronoun skills anytime, anywhere!
Here are a few ideas to help your child get the most out of this exercise.
- Start together.
To support your child, explore the exercise with them and help them read the instructions and answer the first questions. This will build their confidence and make it easier for them to work independently. - Change the grade level.
If you child finds the exercise too hard or too easy, don’t hesitate to change the grade level to better align with their abilities. - Recognize their efforts.
