Frankenstein's monster

Large, scary human-like creature. It was created in a laboratory using collected body parts and was brought to life with lightning. Origin: 1818 novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley.

troll

Big, clumsy creature with oversized nose and ears. Its skin is generally made of stone, earth or covered in moss, plants or even trees. Origin: 13th century Northern European folktales.

boogeyman

Imaginary monster used by adults to scare children into behaving. It has no fixed shape or features. Origin: 15th century folktales.

gremlin

A mischievous, small, creature blamed for mechanical failures, glitches, or breakdowns in machinery and electronics. Origin: Pilots in the British Royal Air Force (RAF) in the 1920s.

orc

Fierce, humanoid monster known for its brute strength, aggressive nature, and warrior culture. Origin: 8th century epic poem Beowulf.

will-o-the-wisp

Hovering, glowing ball of light or flame seen at night. Origin:16th century European folklore

leprechaun

Short, bearded man wearing green or red clothing. Origin: 10th century Irish folktales.

djinn
genie

Naturally invisible, but can change shapes to look like humans or animals. Origin: 6th century Arabian folklore.

kelpie

Water horse creature that can shapeshift into a human. Origin: 6th century Celtic and Pictish oral legends.

cyclops

Giant human-like creature with a single eye. Origin: 8th century BCE the Odyssey.

shapeshifter

Creature that can change form. Specific origin unknown.

wendigo

Thin, pale-skinned creature with an insatiable appetite. Origin: Algonquian oral legend.

oni

Large human-like creature with horns and bright red or blue skin. Origin: 8th century Japanese folklore

Hybrid mix of horse/goat face, a kangaroo-like torso, bat wings, hooves, and a rat-like tail. Said to live in the Pine Barrens, a vast forest in New Jersey (United States).

Flatwoods Monster

Alien-like cr#f5f9fde with a large hood that tapers to a point (like an ace of spades) and a metallic lower part that looks like a skirt. Said to live in Flatwoods, West Virginia (United States).
