At the end of Grade 6, all students enrolled in a French school in Quebec are evaluated in French by the Ministère de l’Éducation du Québec.
The compulsory examination is composed of two parts: a reading exam and a writing exam.
The reading exam takes place over 2 half-days:
- Day 1: Reading the narrative text and answering questions
- Day 2: Reading the expository text and answering questions
The writing exam takes place over 2 half-days:
- Day 3: Writing – Planning and starting the first draft
- Day 4: Writing – Editing, correcting, and writing the final draft
The Grade 6 French examination assesses how well students are able to plan, write, revise, and evaluate a French text. The reading component is evaluated using a grid that assigns points based on the following criteria:
- Understanding of the key elements of a text
- Relevant justification of their reactions to a text
The writing component is evaluated using a grid that assigns points based on the following criteria:
- The ability to adapt to the writing situation
- The coherence of the text
- The use of appropriate vocabulary
- The use of proper sentence structure and punctuation
- The use of proper lexical and grammatical spelling
This year, the ministry exam is worth 20% of the evaluated competency.
During the compulsory French examination, your child will be allowed to use the following materials:
- A checklist
