The Renaissance was a transitional period that straddled the Middle Ages and Modern Times. A number of social changes, scientific inventions and emerging artistic movements justify the name Renaissance.
The 15th century was a period of great intellectual and artistic ferment in Europe. A new school of thought, humanism, emerged. This new trend, which brought with it a new perception of Man, was to influence artists and spread throughout the continent.
