Here's how to draw a straight horizontal or vertical line in a technical drawing. The first step before drawing is to tape the sheet of paper to the drawing board.
The following tools and materials are required to draw a horizontal line:
-
A sheet of paper properly attached to the drawing board
-
A lead pencil
-
A T-square

-
Place the T-square against the edge of the drawing board.
Right-handed people should press the T-square against the left edge of the drawing board, while left-handed people should press it against the right edge. -
Slide the T-square up or down so that its top edge is where the horizontal line has to be drawn and then hold it firmly in place.
-
Gently draw the line along the top edge of the T-square with the lead pencil.
Right-handed people should trace from left to right, tilting the pencil slightly to the right, while left-handed people should trace from right to left, tilting the pencil slightly to the left.
